Admit it—I’m definitely not the only one here who’s gotten lost down the Pinterest rabbit hole a few times. Or been buried under a pile of emails so deep you can’t even find the bottom. Well take heart, because while you may have more tech gadgets than you can keep track of (and even more social media profiles to keep up with), we’ve got a few killer tips that will help you get off the time-suck train.

The two minute rule. This is one of the best tips I’ve ever gotten, and it came from Erin Loechner. She says that if you receive an email that will take less than two minutes to answer, do it right away. Then get rid of it. Boom. Done.

Other email organization. For the emails that will take longer, organization is key! Set up your inbox with folders for each part of your life and keep a system going. Give yourself a time frame each day for responding to emails and stick to it. It’s easy to get distracted by email when you’re doing other tasks.

Automate, automate, automate. Be sure you know what your tech is capable of! If there’s something you can automate, do. Set up auto email responses. Have your phone remind you of the appointments on your calendar. Put your thermostat on a timer program. In the long run, little things like this will add up and mean fewer things to remember to check off your list.

Limit your social media. I’m a social media fiend, but between Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, and all of the other various networks out there, you can spend all day doing it. Limit yourself somehow. Choose to only participate in three. Or give yourself a cumulative social media time limit every day. It’ll free you up to be doing other things like, ya know, participating in real life!

Let your smartphone be smart. There are so many time management apps out there, and they all fit on that little piece of tech that goes with you everywhere. Find your favorite and use it. I’m a fan of Evernote for organization and notekeeping. TeuxDeux is perfect for knocking things off your list. And I hear that Things is the ultimate. Just pick your poison and make the app work for you.

The bottom line is that you need to make your tech do the work that it’s meant to do! Take the time to know the possibilities and then use them—I promise you’ll be glad you did. And if you have any tips to add, we’re all ears!

    Time management is more precious now a days. The daily activities are more prior to any other stuffs. A better management of those with good time scheduling has gotta high importance in the field.
