When you have to leave a pet at home, it’s always reassuring to know that there is someone looking after them. But how do you find a great pet sitter?
The first place I would start is by asking your friends, family, and neighbors for recommendations. There is a great chance that they know someone wonderful who they have trusted with their own pets.
If you can’t find a personal recommendation, the National Organization of Professional Pet Sitters has a search feature that can connect you to pet sitters in your area. You can search for professionals in your area and include your pet type. They offer a wide range of options for anything from birds to ferrets and, of course, dogs and cats. There are pet sitting professionals that can help with daily walks, overnight care, and even pets with special needs. The site features only certified pet sitters.
Another site you can check is Care.com. They do require you to create an account before you can search through their pet sitter listings though.
One more option is to ask a trusted family member or friend to take care of your pet while you are away. Chances are, since they are likely to be familiar with your pet and your pet with them, it can be a comfortable experience for both pet and sitter.
