cinco de mayo salsa tasting

Every holiday is a good excuse to celebrate with food and drink, right? And while, I live far away from Mexico and my knowledge of Mexican cuisine and customs is limited, I am totally up to enjoying this day with a little tasty fiesta. What better and simpler way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than with a salsa tasting? Even here in Canada I think I can muster this nod to our favorite holiday destination.

Gather friends, family, and neighbors at your home, or your front stoop, and set up a table with a big bowl of tortilla chips and several types of salsa. Make sure to label each bowl of salsa and indicate if it’s mild or spicy. Add spoons to each bowl to avoid double dipping. Set up a couple of drinks, some music, and a hat or two and you’re ready to celebrate!

If you usually just pick up the grocery store jar of salsa, here’s a nice selection of different choices. These are easy to make, there’s lots of variety and some unusual fresh flavors. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
